-There are mythical sea creatures, prehistoric
sea creatures and those sea animals the people
actually haven't seen.
They are
mostly deep sea creatures and their sea
habitat riches several thousand meters deep into
the ocean. Sometimes there are small sea animal
and sometimes real sea monsters such as the
giant squid or octopus.
Ocean sea creatures are
really interesting as you can see in the pictures. Prehistoric sea creatures are
still a
mythical part of sea life and human imagination.
Huge sea
aquariums have been built in the recent past to simulate the sea
habitat of ocean creatures and make them visible
for everyone. Some of the ocean sea creatures
even appear around a coral reef, such as shark,
whale sharks, sting rays and sea snakes, just to
name a few.

|
| As the deep
sea exploration of the ocean is under way we
reach deeper and deeper into the ocean
with newly built submersibles which are capable to
bring us excellent pictures and videos of the
deep ocean. |

A prehistoric sea
creature was found by British Kevan Sheehan.
The fossil bones of the monster sea creature
were found at Weymouth Bay on England's south
coast, a UNESCO -
World heritage site also called Jurassic Coast.
The Pliosaurus
was a real sea monster, a floating war
machine up to 16 meters long and 12 tons
heavy. This prehistoric sea creature was a lethal
risk for any animal coming close. This sea
creature named Pliosaurus was from about 150
million years ago.

Deep Sea
Snails
A new sea creature has been found moving on hard
boots made from iron,
this are deep sea snails
crawling on iron soles
In the depths of
the Indian Ocean sea-snails are living with iron boots,
soft iron boots are unique in the animal
kingdom. These deep sea creatures live around
black smokers where the
environment it’s boiling hot.
The newly discovered deep sea creatures
are living around and on so-called Black Smokers,
15 meters high chimneys functioning as hot
springs pushing
out hot water with
around 380
degrees Celsius. The hot water contains large
quantities of hydrogen sulfide. A
variety of organisms are living in
this harsh environment - including this strange
deep sea
snail, which were found by Anders Waren and
colleagues from the Swedish Museum of Natural
History. |

The scales
protecting the foot of the deep sea snail
are made from
iron sulfides
pyrite and greignit. The newly discovered deep
seesnails
are currently the
only known animals using iron sulfides as
skeleton material. Such
iron sheds known previously only by organisms
from the so-called
Cambrian explosion - a period with particularly
rapid development
of biodiversity before 500 until 540 million
years ago. The
shape and genome
of this deep sea creatures rather indicate that
they are from a relatively recent period.
About the
function of the iron boots of this deep sea
creature the scientists can so far only speculate.
It could be a protection against predatory
snails of
the Phymorhynchus
type since their sting is too short to penetrate
through the armor. |
